[1] Data centers present challenges in this respect due to variations in workload that can create sudden changes in power demand, requiring the grid to have sufficient flexibility and reserves to maintain frequency and voltage stability. [5] Finally, the proposal establishes ride-through requirements that set minimum disturbance performance standards for voltage and frequency events. MISO said these measures reduce the risk of "unnecessary disconnection or customer-initiated rapid reductions in demands during system events." [1]

Grandfathering, Effective Date, and Next Steps

MISO's proposal includes grandfathering provisions designed to provide regulatory certainty to existing or nearly completed commercial arrangements for large loads.
