The parent company of electric vehicle (EV) battery maker Gotion Inc. has made staff members pledge allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while wearing uniforms of the Chinese Red Army during company trips to the mainland. The Daily Caller first broke the news, citing several reports and footage posted on the Chinese battery manufacturer’s website. It zoomed in on company field trips held back in July and August 2021 by Gotion's parent firm, Gotion High-Tech Power Energy Co., based in China's eastern Anhui province. Gotion High-Tech employs 923 CCP members, including its CEO Li Zhen. Li also serves as the party secretary for the firm's CCP committee. The July 2021 two-day field trip was organized by Gotion High-Tech's internal CCP committee. On the first day, 50 employees hiked across six miles of mountainous terrain. The following day, the employees visited the Revolutionary Memorial Hall in Anhui's Huoshan County and pledged the CCP's oath. "I volunteer to join the CCP; uphold the Party's platform; observe the provisions of the Party's by-laws; carry out a member's duties; carry out the Party's decisions; strictly observe the Party's discipline; be loyal to the Party; work hard; fight for communism as long as I live; be ready at all times to sacrifice everything for the Party and people; and never betray the Party," the employees pledged. Two months later in August 2021, Gotion High-Tech organized another company outing – this time at Dabie Mountain in Anhui province. The trip served as a homage to the Long March from 1934 to 1935, where the Chinese Red Army evaded the pursuit of the nationalist Kuomintang forces. The march contributed to the emergence of Mao Tse-Tung as the undisputed CCP leader until his death in September 1976. Employees of the California-based subsidiary learned Red Army songs during the August 2021 outing. They also wore the uniforms of the Red Army during the two trips, according to the Daily Caller.

Gotion could spy on the U.S. through its Michigan plant

The Daily Caller's report of Gotion High-Tech organizing field trips for employees comes amid its subsidiary planning to build a $2.4 billion EV battery plant in Big Rapids, Michigan. Under the plan, which would be subsidized by American taxpayer dollars, Gotion will construct two EV battery production facilities each spanning 550,000 square feet. It also follows rising concerns regarding Beijing's investment in American industries, stoking fears that spies for the the communist nation are infiltrating top U.S. businesses and educational institutions. According to a Foreign Agents Registration Act filing, the California-based Gotion is "wholly owned and controlled by the Anhui-based Gotion High-Tech. Meanwhile, residents of Green Charter Township near Big Rapids – where the proposed EV battery plant will soon rise – have spoken out against the plan. Community members cited its link to the CCP as a foremost concern, given that the site is close to the Michigan Army National Guard base in Big Rapids. (Related: Proposed CCP-controlled battery plant in Michigan constitutes a significant THREAT to the environment and national security.) Resident Ormand Hook voiced out his disappointment over the plant, telling NewsNation: "We're here, but not stupid." Corrie Riebow, another Green Charter resident, also wondered why Gotion chose the town for its battery plant. She remarked: "Why here? I don't know, but somebody must be benefiting. We won't be, but somebody is." Head over to CommunistChina.news for more stories about Gotion and its ties to the CCP.
