Reuters blames CLIMATE CHANGE for Christmas Day massacre of Christians by Muslims in Nigeria

Reuters has blamed climate change, not violent Muslims, for the Christmas Day massacre in Nigeria that killed almost 200 Christians. According to a Dec. 28 report by the outlet, the Dec. 25 massacre was the "bloodiest violence since 2018" in the West African country. It then went the whole nine yards to justify that "climate change" is to blame for the massacre. "Experts and politicians say climate change and expanding agriculture are creating competition for land, pushing farmers and herders into conflict," Reuters noted. The culprits of the harrowing massacre were allegedly nomadic Muslim Fulani herdsmen using machetes and guns. They made their way through the villages in the central Plateau State housing generally Christian farmers, trying to kill anyone in their path. According to Reuters, climate change has made northern Nigeria – where the Fulani hail from – more susceptible to both drought and floods. This, the outlet said, has "forced" the herdsmen to kill Christian farmers and take their land. Nevertheless, Plateau State Gov. Caleb Mutfwang denounced the "unprovoked" attacks and described the damage that went much beyond what would make up a seizure of land. Houses, cars and properties were left burned from arson, he said. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu also condemned the "primitive and cruel" attacks. Local officials confirmed the attacks on Dec. 25, adding that at least 160 were killed. Monday Kassah, head of the Bokkos local government area (LGA) in Plateau state, said 113 people have been killed there in "well-coordinated raids in at least 20 villages." He added that more than 300 wounded people were rushed to hospitals in the Bokkos, Jos and Barkin Ladi LGAs. Violence in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria between the two ethno-religious groups is not unusual. In 2018, an assault left more than 200 people dead.

Separate outlet paints Christian churches and pastors as victims

Meanwhile, the Christian Daily International/Morning Star News (CDI/MSN) depicts a completely different picture than Reuters. It has described much of the violence by the Fulani herdsmen as being conducted against Christian churches and pastors. "Some pastors were killed, and another pastor and his wife and five children were killed during these attacks," recounted villager Dawzino Mallau. " These terrorists who attacked these Christian communities were in the hundreds, and they carried out the attacks as the hapless Christians were preparing for Christmas programs lined up by their pastors." "About 160 Christians in these villages were killed by the terrorists," said Alfred Mashat, another villager. "We believe they are carrying out these attacks alongside armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen." French politician and writer Eric Zemmour posted about the massacre on Dec. 27 on the X platform. "More than 130 Christians massacred in Nigeria … by mercenary groups linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State, in 20 coordinated attacks in villages. Among the victims were a large number of women, children and Protestant pastors and their families. They were preparing for Christmas celebrations," he wrote. "The most extraordinary thing is that this horror is nothing extraordinary: more than 5,000 Nigerian Christians have been murdered in 2022 because of their faith, and thousands of Nigerian Christian women have been raped and kidnapped. Never in all of human history has the number of persecuted Christians around the world been so high, and no other religion is so persecuted today." Zemmour concluded his post by condemning the West's "deafening silence on this planetary catastrophe." Follow Genocide.news for more news about the massacre of Christians around the world.
