Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warplanes conducted airstrikes in Al-Habbariyah Heights and the outskirts of Kfar Hamam in Southern Lebanon on Wednesday, April 3, in retaliation for Hezbollah attacks on Israeli border strikes on the same day. Hezbollah has helped Hamas in the past, including in the 2014 Gaza War. Currently, Hezbollah has reiterated its commitment to attacking Israeli sites until the war on Gaza ends. (Related: Israel airstrike kills Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon.) "In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their valiant and honorable resistance, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance targeted, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, a gathering of Israeli enemy soldiers in Khallet Wardah with appropriate weapons, achieving direct hits," said Hezbollah in a statement taking responsibility for the attack. Before the IDF airstrikes, Hezbollah had also announced a rocket attack on a "new secret command position behind the Pranit Barracks," as well as an earlier attack on Israeli soldiers at the Al-Rahib site in the Galilee region.

Israel is always the instigator of violence

But this latest round of violence began when the IDF attacked an emergency relief center in the southern village of Al-Habbariyah in late March, which resulted in the deaths of at least seven people paramedics. Hezbollah immediately responded to the attack, which Israel claims was made in self-defense. "In response to the massacre committed by the Zionist enemy in the town of Al-Habbariyah, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance bombed the settlement of Kiryat Shmona and the command of the 769th Brigade in Kiryat Shmona Barracks with dozens of rockets," Hezbollah stated. The rocket attack launched early on March 27, targeted the Kiryat Shmona settlement and a nearby military site in the Galilee region. One Israeli citizen was killed in the attack, as medics retrieved his body from a building hit by the Hezbollah rockets. Before the attack, Israeli warplanes had struck the Lebanese Ambulance Association center in Al-Habbariyah, resulting in the deaths of at least seven medics and injuries of four civilians. Moreover, Israeli airstrikes had targeted Baalbek in the Eastern Beqaa Valley of Lebanon multiple times on Mar. 26. Hezbollah responded to the initial attack with rockets aimed at an Israeli command center in the occupied Golan Heights. The escalation of hostilities has seen an expansion of alliances against Israel. Mohammad Takkoush, Secretary-General of the Sunni, Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamic Group, revealed that his organization had joined the fight against Israel in Lebanon. "We decided to join [the battle] as a national, religious and moral duty. We did that to defend our land and villages. We also did so in support of our brothers in Gaza. Part of [our attacks against Israeli forces] were in coordination with Hamas, which coordinates with Hezbollah." Takkoush said.
